Pilates
All Pilates classes at St Pancras Physiotherapy and Pilates Clinic are taught by Pilates trained physiotherapists. This means that you will be carefully supervised so even if there is a history of back or neck injury, or you have a particular sporting goal in mind you can be reassured of close attention. For this reason classes are kept to a maximum of eight clients per class. What is Pilates? Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it back into correct balance and alignment. It will also help improve posture, achieving the delicate balance between strength and flexibility, and is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension and prevent injury in daily life. Background The method was developed by the late Joseph Pilates, born in 1880 in Germany.
He opened his first studio for dancers in New York in 1920. Pilates continues to be used by athletes, but more recently has been adapted to help people of all levels. It is increasingly used to complement Physiotherapy and Osteopathy. Who is Pilates suitable for? Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Perfect for the first time exerciser, because of its slow, gentle and controlled movements as well as progressing to much higher levels, suitable for sports people, to minimize muscle imbalances and reduce the risk of injury. It is particularly encouraged for those with a long history of recurrent back problems, now recommended by many orthopaedic consultants. Athletes who suffer with recurrent foot, knee or hip problems will find particular benefit from this type of muscle re-balancing. What's involved? The Pilates classes at the clinic are all tailored for whichever participants are in the class. The physiotherapist will speak to any new participants before the class to ascertain any potential problems or specific goals. EquipmentAll classes are 'small equipment' classes. This means they are mat-based but may include the use of the foam rollers, core cushions, therabands or gym balls. The Clinic does not run reformer or machine classes. How much do they cost? A 60 minute group class costs £10, but you can save money with our block booking option. If you prefer an individual Pilates session with one of our physios, 30 minutes costs £45. View full details of our Pilates class prices. When do the classes take place? Most classes last 60 minutes, though due to popular demand we do now have two Early-Bird classes which last for 45 minutes so that you can still get to work on time! Classes run every day, lunchtime and evening. Saturdays, too! Please book in advance as numbers are limited. We welcome all levels of ability to every class.
